Choosing wall panelling: fluted, V-groove or acoustic?

A practical guide to the three most-specified architectural wall panelling systems and where each works best.

Architectural wall panelling has shifted from a hospitality detail to a default in luxury living rooms, bedrooms and entries. The three systems we install most often each read very differently — and suit different spaces.

Fluted timber panelling — usually American oak, walnut or blackbutt — brings warmth and a strong vertical rhythm. It works beautifully behind a bedhead, framing a fireplace or wrapping an entry wall. Spec it with shadowline reveals and integrated lighting for the most architectural result.

V-groove and shadowline panel systems read calmer and more contemporary, while acoustic timber slat systems combine the look of fluted timber with measurable acoustic performance — ideal for media rooms, offices and open living spaces with hard floors.
